July 25, 2002 - Bicycles and cars don't mix?

Perhaps I agree on some level that bikes and cars don't mix... but this article has to be one of the most disturbing editorials I have ever seen.

I just came across your recent article entitled "Bicycles and cars don't mix."

Cyclists in New England and across the USA are curious to know whether your column typically includes "tongue-in-cheek" type of editorial or whether this is truly your position on the topic of recreational cycling.

Would you please assure us that this editorial is either a joke or the result of a momentary lapse of reason?
