November 20, 2002 - Final 2002 Elite Men BAR Standings...
Since I am too busy (lazy?) to update the PA-BAR rankings on the right of this page (easy shit like that is actually more complicated w/ blogger, hence the same poll for months), I'll just list the final 2002 standings here for now.
1. Steve Speaks (who else, the guy is still better than most pros.)
2. Mark Light (no surprise)
3. Ryan Dewald (Light's teammate)
4. Mike Hebe (mr. consistency)
5. Josh Beck (another bean's guy?)
6. Rob Hacker (likes to tow the field, maybe too many triathlons?)
7. Joe Papp (strong like bull, but more controversial)
8. Karl Woitas (bean's again, gets the nice guy award.)
9. Ryan Leech (the roadie, not the trials rider)
10. John Delong (bean's again, retains bonehead award for hooking)
Honorable Mention: 11th placed Ryan Oelkers - he barely raced, but when he did, he kicked ass.
Top three elite women:
1. Nonnie Howard
2. Lynda Maldonado
3. Caroline Hacker
November 19, 2002 - USACycling to Increase License Fee
It may be old news or it may not even be news at all, but the word on the street up here in New England is that you're gonna' have to fork out $50 for your USCF racing license in 2003.
Of course, part of that increase undoubtedly stems from USACycling's new policy of passing on some of the fee to your local association (NEBRA in New England, PCA in PA). In return for the revenue-sharing arrangement, the local association is expected to handle some adminsitrative responsibilities (and/or "implement local programs" according to Bill Laudien).
In New England's case, NEBRA will reportedly get $10 of the $50 USCF fee for each district rider. That's a decent amount of cash so hopefully the PCA will grow accordingly if, in addition to the per rider fee at PA-BAR races, they also earn $10 from PA riders' licenses.
With such an injection of revenue, maybe the PCA can direct more (if any) of their attention to track racing at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome.
my injury update: docs found a cyst on the damaged goods so I remain off the bike... maybe until spring. brrr, it's too cold in boston anyway.
